okay slightly odd question, but how does one go about modifying the start up screen? (or is there some way to disable the splash screen?)

In AutoCAD, right click on the icon, go to properties and type /nologo at the end of the shortcut..
It works in AutoCAD and Mechanical, I can only assume it will work with Max...

That's a perfectly understandable question. If my ex used Max9 she'd be looking for a new line of work. She can't look at them and has to leave the room.
I tried the /nologo and it simply kept MAX from launching.

Really, it works just fine for Mechanical. Interesting.

Really, it works just fine for Mechanical. Interesting.MAX is not autocad based - it's an entirely different program.
This might be worth a try:
From the reference for Max 8:
splash.bmp: To substitute a custom splash screen (startup screen) for the default image, copy any Windows Bitmap (.bmp) file into the program root directory and rename it splash.bmp. The program will thereafter use this image at startup.

To answer your question I finally had the time to dig this up. What you need to do is to substitute a custom splash screen (startup screen) for the default image, copy any Windows Bitmap (.bmp) file into the program root directory and rename it splash.bmp. The program will thereafter use this image at startup.
I had forgotten you could do that and something was nagging me in the back of my head that it was possible.
Enjoy your snake free Max 9 experience.

HTHBuggers. You beat me by one minute! :-) It does work in MAX 9 - I was testing it just now which is probably why you beat me to the post! Good job.

Don't you just hate those nagging feelings in the back of your head. :)

for 2016
open C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\AcBrandRes.dll in Resource Tuner,
export RCdata/dib, save as bitmap, edit as you like and replace it back in dll.

I'm surprised more companies don't do this to stay consistent with their brand. 3dsMax for ...Company X (logo)
