View Full Version : Changes in 2007 - better?

Maybe this post belongs somewhere else, because it's more of a gripe than anything, but:
Is it only me, or does anyone else feel like the 2007 interface is sort of "clunky"?
Out of the box, I feel like all those "improvements" get in my way more than anything. I have turned most of them off - do I really NEED everything I scroll over to thicken AND phantom? Really?
And I'm finding the customization tools are less intuitive than the old 2004 way (yes, I skipped right over 2006). I used to be able to add a button in a second. Now...oh yeah, I'll get used to it, but in the meantime, not too happy.

Uh, and while I'm at it, why did they change certain icons? Did we really NEED those changes, is it really a necessary improvement? It's not a totally different lanquage, but it's certainly a different dialect. What a pain.

End of rant.

I agree with a lot of that, much of what was "improved" seems to get more in the way than anything else. Granted, some of the changes are just things I'm not used to, but some things seem worse off. For example: If I'm drawing for a while and realize I've made an scaling error, I used to be able to keep hitting UNDO until I saw "UNDO SCALE" on the command line. Now with the advent of Dynamic Input, I don't see that (as easily) - I have to hit UNDO until I see where I made the scale command.

Hopefully, I'll get used to it, but it's a pain right now...

Yeah, I know...I'll get used to the changes. I always do. Don't like the mtext editor much either...well, the whole bullets and all is nice, but I don't like how it shows the text in the window exactly as it is on the screen (pretty sure there's a setting that I haven't found yet) so that if I'm zoomed out and trying to edit a bit of TTF text, I still only see the solid rectangle that it's showing me on the screen instead of the actual content of the text (god, I hate TTF) or if the beginning of the text is off my screen, I'm not seeing it in the editor either. I'll find the setting when I get a chance, but it's about the only setting that didn't migrate from my old version...

I totally agree. Seems as though once you are good at a procedure within Autocad a new release comes out and trashes the old one. I guess this is how Autodesk makes $$. After customizing 2006 and 2007 compared to 2005, 2004 etc. I strongly feel the older method was much easer than dealing with cui's. One of the other problems we are having with 2007 is that we can't save down to a 2004 release. I'll post that in a new thread.

I jumped straight from 2000 to 2007, and I have to say, I much prefer it!!! But, I don't have the level of experience that you guys do, so I am still finding all the things that make life easier. Maybe I will feel the same way about 2008 as you do about 2007!!
