3dOrbit defaulting to fly mode

When I activate 3Dorbit from button, command line or middle mouse, AutoCAD tries to enter fly mode. It asks to go into perspective. If I choose no and don't ask again, it keeps on asking and trying. I have tried resetting the profile to no avail. Any suggestions?

After messing around some more I found a fix that worked for me. I still do not know what happened nor can I now replicate the problem. But to fix it I did the following:

Reset the profile
Immediately shutdown AutoCAD
Immediately reboot
Restart AutoCAD
--got a message that the previous session had failed (did not see that during the ACAD shutdown)
okayed the drawing recovery
closed ACAD again
reopened - no errors this time and 3dorbit works fine.
