Element IDs can't be selected in this mode

In response to my support request, tech support advised modifying a beam system with element ID 645031. When I select element by ID, Revit returns "The following Element IDs can't be selected in this mode: 645031".

Does anyone know what this means and how I go about finding that specific element?

It's saying your in the wrong mode to find that id.


Being a beam system, I'd guess the id is of one of the sketch objects. To find it you'd have to place each of your beam systems in the project in the edit sketch mode & then use the find by id tool to search for the offending id while in the sketch mode.

Actually any object within a sketch can't be selected with the ID. So David, definitely a wish list item
