small angled line & snaps

I'm trying to draw the slope of a driveway- which raises 1/4" per ft....

When I try to place the second (top) end of the line it will not place in the spot it needs to be in- it only snaps around where I need it to go...setting the view to fine does not work, nor does turning the snaps off...

Does anyone have any suggestions????

if you hit the tab key you can cycle through the snaps including none. you will get some warnings about line may not be accurate or something, but it can be ignored.

Ya know, I read that in a post w/ somewhat similar context, but it was just so simple I didn't think it would work! The manules need to have PAGE 1: key codes!
