Is there a way to get to figue out the length of a ramp?

I cant seem to find a parameter, or actually dimension the actual length of a ramp. So i came up with this:

Is this the only way of doing this? or am I missing something?

In plan view you should not have a problem with ramps and stairs. However, I have found that I have had to creat small lines on custom steps and dimension from those to get the measurement needed.

correct, the "plan" dimension is not a problem. as you can see I have the on the drawing. it is the bottom chain below the ramp. however that is not the TRUE length of the ramp which is what I need sometimes.
