View Full Version : Floor openings on different phases

I am working with a floor that is part of an existing building (existing phase). I am trying to cut an opening in that slab (new construction phase), but I am unable to differentiate the phasing of the opening cut from the original slab. I want to avoid modelling the floor twice from phase to phase, instead just model it once and have the opening in the floor in the new construction phase.

For some reason openings don't have phasing properties.

As a workaround, you can make your own opening family (rectangular floor one is attached) which will follow phasing.

If the opening is a complex shape, you could try tracing it with opening sketch lines, & then copy/paste them into a generic floor family opening in schetch mode. If you have the view in the project and the view in the family set at the same scale, it should work.

andrewg,

I have used a floor opening family similar to what you have posted here; however, nothing seems to show up as being demolished in my demolition views. I was wondering if you know a way to solve this. Otherwise, this is a pretty nice solution.

i have modeled it as 2 seperate floors and it was not too bad. just make the 2 floors in the existing (1 floor represents the hole) and use the linework tool to erase the lines (in an existing view). then demo the floor hole.

Worked ok for me and really was not too hard to get the right results.

I agree with Justin, go with 2 floors.

Create an in-place floor family containing only a void. You can assign the Phase Created, which in this case will "demo" the slab.

Be sure to add projection lines around the perimeter of your opening when creating the family. It'll then show correctly when demolished...

Thanks for all the replies. Ultimatley, I decided to go with the two floor solution. This seemed to fit my scenario best and it only occured in one location in the project.

Thanks again for the assist.
