View Full Version : Visisbility Parameter menu way off in space

I have created a block with Visibility Parameters. In the block editor I have placed the parameter at the bottom of my block, and everything looks lovely there. However, when I insert the block into the drawing and click on it, the visibility parameter shows up way far away from my block. The drop down menu functions correctly, but it is nowhere near the block. I have tried recreating the block, renaming it, restarting AutoCAD after recreating the block; I have ensured that there are no lines with Z values, as I have snapped the parameter to a line in the block, and I have tried placing the completed block with parameter at the 0,0,0 origin. I am out of ideas. The only thing I have not tried, as it has just occurred to me, is to simply place the parameter at a place near the block without snapping to a line. I will try that as soon as I have posted this.

Thanks,
Jude

i think i fixed it, although i couldnt begin to tell you exactly why it works now and didnt then. i inserted the block, and the vis showed up way up top - opened the block - moved the vis state - closed the block - and it then worked.

/shrug

dynamic blocks can be buggy, and i havent been able to do much with them lately so im a bit rusty :(

I am not able to open the file... I get the "invalid file" message. I am using ACAD2006. Might you be using 2007 and that is the problem?

Thanks in advance, I hope it works.

No problem. I was just headed out the door. I'll check tonight when I get home or in the morning when I get back to work.

Thanks,
Jude

Jude -

The problem lies with the fact that your block is drawn with the base 137ft and some odd inches in the x and 35ft and some odd inches in the y from the 0,0 point of the drawings. I've fixed it and reattached. All I did was move your block and parameter so that (arbitrarily) the bottom left of the schedule is at 0,0 and (when not in the block editor) changed the base (command "base") to 0,0.

Not having the base at 0,0 will create problems with the location of any grips in a dynamic block. It's good practice to start all blocks with the base at 0,0 anyway (even if they're not dynamic).

I did try to recreate the block (again this morning) placing the bottom middle base point at 0,0,0. Still, when inserting the block into a drawing the vis was way off. I fixed it by editing the block after is was inserted into a drawing, copy clipping it back into the source file (after erasing the old block from the file,) and renaming the source file. For some reason, when I tried dragging the block from Design Center onto the Tool Palette, the vis was still off in space when I inserted it even though I was careful to purge previous definitions of the block. However, I found that when I dragged the block from the source file directly onto the Tool Palette, the block performed perfectly in every drawing into which is was inserted.

Thanks for the help. I will take a look at your fix and see if it differs from mine.
