Hi Guys,
If I have an open floor slab, and I wanna apply a multiple colored patterns to half of it only, how would I do that. Eg, Half of the slab is Concrete, next half is wood w/ different colored shapes on it.
Thanks guys

Use Floors and create each type as a different floor. We use this all the time for floor paterns.

Or do a split face on the floor. You then paint a different hatch or color into each piece of the floor, align the hatches to each other or external objects, etc. Now if I can only find a way to
1: turn off those patterns independently for those views that don't need them, and
2: tag the material that was painted on, rather than the underlying material of the floor system.

This may sound a little odd but you might actually think of using Roofs for this... and here's why... floors grow down, roofs grow up. If you think of your Floor as structural then as it gets thicker you'll typically want to hold the top of floor the same. And as you add finishes to the floor slab they'll need to hold the bottom consistent and get thicker above the slab. You can do this with floor offsets too but you can't control that by type (which is unfortunate). Little odd perhaps but interesting I think.

Just right click - select all instances. Set the height and you are done project wide.
I just make all my finish floors 1/4" thick. We have them filtered out in most other views other than the floor finish plan - so you don't see them most of the time and no one really cares how thick they are. I also have views where they are easily selected en masse.

Aaron, do you the same with walls, meaning create a separate "finish" wall to do all the pretty stuff on? And what limitations do you find to just turning off visibility of Surface Patterns and using the single wall, floor whatever? We are starting to do more Interiors projects in Revit, and this is going to become more and more of a need.
Thanks,
Gordon

For walls it depends on how many walls there are and how much variation there is. Typically I will do tile as a veneer over a basic wall type. This simplifies management of wall types and reduces the number of types required.
