Ok, maybe I should know this but I'm asking anyway. I can't modify anything that I have drawn on the defpoints layer. Why not? And, how can I erase, etc somthing off of the defpoints layer?
Thanks from a dumb engineer.

Is the layer locked?

No. Dang, I was hoping it was that simple. Thanks anyway.

Do you have layer 0 turned off?

Also, AutoCAD now allows you to create no-plot layers, it's better to create a no plot layer than to draw something on the defpoints layer.

Sounds like layer 0 is off or frozen. Layer 0 has to be editable in order to edit entities on defpoints layer.
Thanks for the correction, gary.gentry

I thought that layer 0 just had to be frozen. I don't think it has to be locked before you can change objects on the defpoints layer.
Why does it appear like everyone is obsessed with putting things on defpoints?
This link (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?p=594571#post594571)will help to explain a bit about defpoints ....

Just remember: Defpoints -- bad!
I agree. I had a drawing done by my predecessor go seriously bad on me years ago because she had drawn things on Defpoints. Though I don't remember the specifics, I remember learning it's best to leave that layer alone.
On another forum, I had someone rip into me because I said I put my viewports on a separate, no-plot layer and this person believes everything no-plot should be put on Defpoints

I was told (and I have no documentations or sources to corroborate) that Autodesk has already announced its intention to remove defpoints as an available layer in future versions. I have been demanding that my users stop using it for any dawing content.
If anyone can verify or dispute this please let me know.

I cant' verify or dispute it, but I'm all for it. With the options AutoCAD offers, is defpoints really needed?

(*sigh*) Did you read the link I posted above?
Defpoints is an AutoCAD created layer which bascially governs dimension reference points (associated dims). so it IS needed. But only by the system itself. It should be used for nothing else ...

I guess we'll see.

No biggie. I've just seen this issue a LOT in the last week or two ....
Right now I'm working on a project where the original draftsman has drawn objects (Lots of em) on Defpoints and I gotta go in and fix his garbage. I've had 2 minor crashes and had to recover the drawing twice so far ....... and this is aside from the deadline I've got on it ... so defpoints is starting to become a pet peeve of mine ;)
