Hello:

I'm finding that Revit reverts back to the system panel types whenever you attempt to assign a custom curtain wall panel family to a curtain wall grid containing non-rectangular panels. Is there a way to overcome this?

As far as I know, only system panels can be non-rectangular. Or do you mean that it won't let you assign a custom panel family to a rectangular panel in a system that also contains non-rectangular panels?

Zoltan:

The panel shapes are non-rectangular... Revit reverts to system panels. This is a pretty big limitation...

I'll post a request to be able to add custom panels to non rectangular panel shapes in the "Revit Building - Wish List" forum.

did you know you can embed a curtain wall into another curtain wall? The embedded one can have an edited elevation profile to be any shpae you'd like. Not sure if this will help your situation, but thought I'd post it.

You can alter the angle of either gridline (vertical and/or horizontal), but that is all. I have resorted to creating in-place mullions to get the desired result of triangulated panels.

As well, I have created custom curtain panel families to do the same thing. This achieves the same result as an in-place solution, but allows for repetition, and gives the modeler absolute control.

I too have run into situations where irregular shaped custom panels revert to system panels.
