View Full Version : Need tutorial/lesson cd's or books on Revit...?

Although I have made several projects in Revit by now, I admit I've never learned to use the family editor much at all.

It seems timelines have always been tight and when I have free time it's like "who wants to go back to work" kind of thing.

I have edited existing windows to be what I want them to be, but it's time I dive in and learn this stuff. I can see that my old skills aren't going to cut it with these new projects and I want to be as fluent as I can in the family editor on windows and doors specifically.

So....

What's the best learning CD or book on this that I could learn from? Perhaps training from AutoDesk Revit?

Need some serious advice please, willing to hear anything.

TIA

JJ

I'd start with these (http://www.cdvsystems.com/courseware.asp).

Thanks BeeGee,

I've used Scott Onstot's Intro to Revit 5 CD, also downloadable. Although it says 5, there are several video segments to get you started on Families.

See my recent threads in Tips & Tricks and Families detailing my recent excursion into families, and dive right in. Is there anything in particular you have questions on?

The KarelCAD website is another good one with lots of tutorials. Karel*CAD (http://www.karelcad.com.au)

Anyone else used this?
Is it just one project they show you how to do things in or should I look for something different since my thing is residential?

Any input is appriciated...

I bought the Scott Onstot cd and found it extremely useful. I would highly recommend it. There is a bit too much time spent on massing, and not enough on families, but a lot of the basics are there and going through it gives you a good grounding in Revit. IMHO

Hi there,

I watched this CD after using Revit for about 6 months. The video really helps fine tune your skills. You tend to "second guess" what he is about to do; however, sometimes you're surprised to find a new or better way to do what you've been doing all this time!

It is light on family editing however. It's good for an intro to topo and clean-up work such as getting rid of those pesky edges of walls which don't match and lines on walls where other items intersect etc.

His voice gets a little irritating after an hour....so leave yourself a lot of break time! I think it was worth it.

Good Luck

Ok, thanks again. I need help in a lot of misc. areas to refine my knowledge. I think I'll download it. I always learn 10x easier with video's than I do out of a book, although I'm certainly not against purchasing any books either.
