I am in the process of trying to do a planting schedule for our site work. The idea is that I am going to lay out various areas with either area boundaries or room boundaries (right now I have been trying room boundaries). Within these areas I need to be able to call out what plants will go into those areas with a list of plants and a list of sizes. Technically, the schedule needs to list the plants, not the areas/rooms, but I need to make calculations of from the areas/rooms.
My current version of this concept is as such:
1. I make a series of room boundaries that encompasses my planting regions.
2. I tag these areas and name them according the the planting region type (Type A, Type B, etc.)
3. I create a schedule that takes the area of each "room" and divides it by percentage to show what percentage of each "room" will be 1 gallon pots, 5 gallon pots, 4" pots, etc.
4. Further, I take the calculations from step 3 and divide those to show what percentage of the 5 gallon pots (for example) are sword ferns (for example). I keep doing calculations like this for each plant.
The result of this method is that I have a schedule that is really really long, and I have to duplicate each plant for each type and size. Also, I have no way to add schedulable parameters to the plants, I would have to give them cumbersome calculation names like "Sword Fern - Nephrolepis exaltata - Type B - 5 gallon."
The way I want it to read is that I have a list of Plants with parameters: Common Name, Scientific Name, Type A, Type B, Type C, Type D, ... Under the Type A-etc. parameters would be a grouping of parameters: 5 gallon, 1 gallon, 4" pot, etc. The only way that I could see to do this would be if I could make duplicate tags for a single room, and have the duplicates show up on the schedule. Then I could use the room tag as a "plant tag." I would name each duplicate a plant name, have the parameters for the scientific and/or common name, and be able to use the associated area to make the calculations. I could then hide the calculation columns in the presented schedule and leave the final results visible.
Unfortunately, I cannot make duplicate unique room tags for the same area.
Is there anyone that can help with this conundrum? Our firm does architecture and landscape architecture, mostly with zoos. We would like to switch over to Revit entirely, but if we cannot schedule any of our site stuff properly, then we will be in the position of having to dual-use Revit (for buildings) and AutoCAD (for site) and schedule all of our site work by hand.
Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate.
