key plans

I know I've seen something here on that, but I'm not having much luck with the search. What is the best way to do Key plans? My initial reaction was just to make little plans and scale them, etc. but you have to make a new plan for every sheet you put it on - a legend would be better, but I'm not sure how to make a legend from a plan...

I've heard several ways to handle this. One method off the top of my head: draw model lines in a partial view, then go to an overall view that's set up as a key plan for the level (no doors, no annotations, etc.) and export to DWG, and import back into a Detail Component family that you can drop onto the sheet.
