families not getting cut through/getting cut through

I cut a section in my building through some pews that i made and imported( and arrayed). they are shown not cut through. also i have a in place family 8 feet beyond the cut which is a chimney and that is shown in front of the section cut...

i feel like i am missing something obvious...

i feel like i am missing something obvious...First, make sure within the Pew Family, that the visibility is set to be shown when it is CUT. (this is a checkbox parameter while you're creating the family items) Look on the Object browser toolbar (above the drawing window).

Second, Check the visibility of the family category (Generic model, Furniture, etc.) in the object properties in THIS particular view.... they could be 'off'.

Third, Check the section in plan - when you click on it, look for the two lines that show which way it is looking, and how far it is looking. Adjust these if necessary.

if this doesn't work... you may need to post a small portion of your rvt file for us to look at..... thanks!

There are a couple of categories of families that don't show a "cut" style, and furniture is one of them. This was done so that if you had, say a table, that crossed the cut plane in a plan view, it would not show as being cut.

You must have built your pews as furniture. Change the category to generic model or casework.

i changed the pews to casework from furniture and changed the chimney from mech. to generic.
Thanks that was very helpful. i always thought that the categories were more for filing purposes and didnt know that there really was a difference in some.
