I'm a student at Santiago High school, and I'm looking for ways to improve my craftsman style house. Any suggestions?
this house has been updated from earlier.

Here are some great websites with details of craftsman homes:

These where given to me by one of the moderators. They have some good craftsman detail.

Here is an updated post. Ive added wood siding, brick detailing on the lower end of the column, and also a dormer.

For myself this is a difficult design to review. I suppose I'm attempting to step away from any structural issues (I'd like to see the garage door slid over slightly, it appears to close to the edge of the home) and determine why I don't like this home.
First the dormer... you can remove it, it's not needed. I know you are attempting to capture the craftsman look by placing it up there... but its just small and taking up space. Now in this case if its an oversized dormer that serves a function (see this image: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~twp/architecture/craftsman/craftsman3.jpg ) then it may work... but I'd just leave it off.
Second, "fill in" the gable area above the front porch with structure... a craftsman tends to be lower, more enclosed. See this porch gable as an example but feel free to design it differently: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~twp/architecture/craftsman/bldg4.jpg
Third, Do you like the windows on your front porch? Do they work well with the plan? It just seems to lack any real view to the front of the structure.
But all in all, I like the direction you are heading... keep up the good work!
