Is there a way to change a dimension to text? I kinda doubt it, what sort of work arounds are there? Attached is what I am trying to accomplish....

I have heard of at least 2 ways. Make a separate dimension with really small text so you cant see it when it prints and text over it.
Or one I heard a little while back and I'd very much like this myself is an invisible font, one that won't print anything.
Can't remember who said they had it, but I'd sure like it if it was posted because I can't find one! (hint, hint) :)

You can also use text with a white background and place it over the dimension.

If you are looking for ways to get around dimensions being parametric, definitely read through this thread (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=41896&highlight=invisible+text). These guys have been working on this substitute for "invisible text" and fine-tuning it. It seems to be tip top.
Also, I remember another good thread, but I can't seem to find it right now...
Good luck,

You might also consider making a symbol or detail component family to do the same thing. You could then have it parametric (drag the fake witness line and the fake dimension text will tell you the real number of courses automatically....)

oops, should have followed that suggested link before posting - it was all about making that fake dimension!! Also, someone in that thread actually built it, so you can simply download and then fiddle a bit to get it to give you what you want.

If you do any exporting to DWG for consultants, id shy away from the one with the really small text, or the text over text. When i export our drawings to CAD for consultants, the small text and/or text in the background is there in the AutoCAD file, and it just looks really bad.
I have a dimension style called DIM-BLANK, that uses the font Blankserif. If you google it, its a free download. The characters are all blank. Then i can put text over it.
**Although in retrospect, Blankserif still maintains the text information, but nothing displays. So i wonder, if i send it to a consultant who doesnt have it, i wonder if it shows up again in simplex... Ill have to check in to that, lol...

I had figured that this wasn't a new issue. The work around that I'll go with is the Fake_dimension family from the referenced post.

It takes a little tweaking to achieve the right scale, but I did that pretty easily from the actual dims on the sheet.
Thanks for the help!

I did a google search on the blank font s.messing pointed to in his thread that he posted. I'll post it here if anyone wants it because I had quite a time finding it. Google came back with 2 possibilities and one wasn't right so enjoy if you want it.

Thank you for the text. I knew I forgot something. Sometimes I feel like I'd lose my mind if it weren't already lost...
