Hi folks.

Could someone tell me how to make a custom CMU wall in Revit the same as I have done in ADT2006? Basically, I have two hatches inside the wall (plan view): one is a solid fill hatch, gray scale, and the other is vertical line hatch that orients itself to the object. Please see attached screen shot as an example of what I am trying to do in Revit 9.

Thanks in advance!!

at this point there is no way to have 2 different overlapping fill patterns. you could make a pattern that combines the 2 patterns, but wont work for solid fills.

If you need multiple hatches in the cut pattern (plan view) you need to have multiple materials. Each material may have its own hatch. There will be a line between each material.

It is more work, but you can add a filled region (with transparent background) to get a second hatch to show through.

you *could* use two plans on a sheet. One is set to Coarse level of detail, and displays the solid gray. The second plan shows only the walls, and is set to Medium level of detail, and displays the line-hatch oriented to the walls.. Drag both views onto a sheet and overlay them. They will snap together.

Marv,

Funny seeing you in here! Here's a picture of somewhat what you're trying to do. Currently there isn't a way to get the hatch to 'follow' the wall (this of them as being global - up is always up).

So what you're seeing is a modification of two walls, one with a horizontal hatch and one with a vertical hatch and the wall corners 'mitered'. You can have the shaded wall also, but not at the same time as the hatches. You could place a filled region over the wall (messy, very messy), but a solid fill is not transparent. If you need to represent the wall as something special (say a 1-hr vs. 2-hr fire rated wall), you can make a custome linetype and place over the wall.

Unfortunately, at this time Revit cannot support that particular brand of customization... yet. I find it's easier to slightly adjust the Cad Standards rather than trying to make a square object fit inside a round hole.

LOL...the AU in Vegas must of made me blind....I don't see the "picture" that you're referring to in your reply!!
Did you forget to attach it or am I going blind??

If I understood correctly, you can set the pattern orientation for Fill Patterns. (Search for "pattern orientation" in Revit help.)

Here is an rvt file which uses one layer pattern like you requested.
