The piping/plumbing piping needs substantial additions before it is really useful. A few that I can think of are:

1) Cast iron pipe and fittings.
2) 2D symbology to indicate breaks in the pipe for readablility on prints, but it keeps the system connected.
3) Valve families.
4) Grooved coupling families.
5) More DMV fittings.

I like seeing where the potential is for the Revit Systems product. However, we are having to create more than half of our project in AutoCAD since the content is not where it needs to be to complete a set of prints for a commercial project.

I am working on valve families - just need to get the Lookup table functionality to work - waiting to hear from Autodesk on this one. Basically, I don't know how to tell the family to use a lookup table. The valve created at AU (no file, just a handout) already had it.

Material wise, I am also looking at this - I need CPVC as well. According to my vendor it should be easy enough.

As far as pipe fittings - this is an easy one, at least for right now. Pipe fittings don't appear to have material properties, so I just copied the included PVC fittings (for sanitary piping at least) and renamed them. I then set the preferences for my pipe to use those instead of the PVC.

This is admittedly all my template file as we are not using Revit systems for real projects yet.

2009 still needs cast iron pipe! And type K, L , M copper, and steel, at a min. See attached for a list of whats include in Revit MEP 2009. If accurate fittings are used, contractors might come to this product for shop drawings.

Broutek.com is your answer. They've been creating MEP content for Revit. They're releasing Victaulic content literally any minute and can also create custom content. Here's the link (http://bimboom.blogspot.com/search?q=broutek) for all of the information.

Broutek's content is fully parametric and includes engineering data. They'll also make any custom object, pipe or fitting for you within 2 days. Their content has much higher quality control than anything you'll download from revitcity.com or create on your own.

Lastly, we're trying to get every manufacturer to create content and give it to you for free. Forward me any manufacturer you've been talking to about Revit and will help them get it created or if you just need some content quickly for your own firm.

Thank you Revit3D.com.
I found Broutek's web site and placed a quote request 4/23/08. It is nice to see they have Victaulic!

I would really love to have Charlotte Pipe's no-hub fittings for Revit.

That would be a great start! I may even be able to pick up some of the shop drawing work!

Thanks. I'm contacting Charlotte Pipe tomorrow. If anyone has other manufacturers that you want their content in Revit, let me know.

Once we get the ball rolling, they'll all have to and want to help the engineers get all the content they need to make Revit successful.

Well you are all correct on this product.
This product has a lot of work to be done to make it really useful for use as Process piping design tool. I agree that whomever organized the fittings ought to be shot.
Definitely not a piping designer. (Caps, plugs & flanges????). Yeow it even hurts to think of that. For one I have used autoplant and have worked their specs for quite a few years (15+) and this program needs to have as an easy interface to create specs that autoplant has. I really like the way the program operates and it's ease of use now Autodesk needs to come up with a better way of doing specs.
Ductwork is great with this tool as is the electrical.
But again specs. Need more.
Enough said.

Has anything come from your conversations with Charlotte Pipe? Just wondering. I could really use a full library of Charlotte fittings. Thanks!

I haven't messed with piping yet-other than hydronic piping. The last I heard from our users was that 2008 didn't have vent piping. Its that true in 2009?

yes 2009 does have sanitary vent.

Other manufacturers? Spears for PVC [and all plastic pipe] and EPC Elkhart for copper fittings. It would be nice to have fittings in Revit match the real world...or even the pipe they are connecting to.

What about Reducing tee's & 90's in the cast Iron chapter. Does any contractor use only straight tee's, then a close nipple & reducing coupling to acheve a smaller pipe size??? No. This is just a lazy design on the part of Autodesk to acheve a result. Very much in need of reducing tee's & 90's
