A coupel of days ago I was discussing REVIT with a friend of mine who works in the Architectural Vizualisation field. The only program he uses is MAYA. He explained that when he started out, the only available program, free of use to learn to work on was MAYA (student learning version). I think that there are many MAYA users out there with the same experience. Why haven't other companies like AUTODESK adopted the same method for their programs like REVIT. It's impossible to learn a new program with their 30 day trial CD's. Anybody out there have an opinion about this?

There was a discussion on this that related to pirate software in the Revit out there forum not long ago. I think you are right; other software has better support when it comes to learning it.

I would suggest, Autodesk to give free licences in Architectural schools, so tht they would have good exposure in their academic level

By not going after student pirates, this already happens. Kind of.

Autodesk grants schools unlimited licenses for very minimal fees. When I was teaching it was $25,000 for unlimited licenses and access to the entire catalog of software. Given the size of endowments of many colleges, this is more than fair.
Autodesk does also make educational software versions available to students and it is sold at many campus bookstores. The educational version of Revit Series is selling for $160 for a one year license.

Autodesk does give free Educational Version of Revit to students. All you need is an e-mail address ending in .edu. To sign up and for more information on the program go to,
students.autodesk.com
You can sign up your institution (if not already listed) and download an educational version of Revit (as well as other Autodesk products).

The only problem with the educational version that is free to download, is that it is one version behind the commercial release. Right now, the version available is 9.0. I don't understand why this is. The "download" version is watermarked already, what purpose could be served by not making the latest version available? (rhetorical question). I've had to dumb-down my lab software so students can use the download version to work at home. Too bad.
