Is there a way to change one tick mark on a dimension without changing the other tick mark (ex: filled dot on one end and diagonal line on the other)? We typically use the closed dot for column lines and the open dot for centerlines when in CAD, but I can't figure out how to combine two tick marks into one dimension in Revit. Thanks!

You can change the centerline tick mark in the dimension options.

Unfortunately this only applies to centerlines and whatever the typical tick mark is. If you want to differentiate between grids and other, non-centerline ticks, you'll have to use different dimension styles and mix and match.

Although I've set the Centerline Tick Mark for my dimension style, the tic doesn't change when i dimension to a grid line, or a line that is set to the <Centerline> type.... what do you have to do to trigger the special tic mark? Thanks.

As mentioned in the original reply, this override doe snot apply to gridlines. no change in 2016 unfortunately.
The 'centerline' is not based on line type it is based on the center of walls and families
