Finally we are moving from Design Development stage to the Construction Documents. Whats the best way to draw 2D 'Standard Details' (like parapet details) and 'Project specific details', and manage them. The Revit default library has a list of detail components .... and is that the best place to start ? From some of the earlier posts it seems like drawing with detail lines, over imported autocad drawings is the best way to save time. Any suggestions ?

In a perfect scenario, the detail is mainly retrieved from the model, and then mostly detail components with few filled regions, and as little linework as possible.
In the 2d portion, this is the priority of what is fast to slow compared to the amount of data each element contains...
Detail components
Filled regions
detail lines
There is another school of thought that makes the model a grey tone, then the whole detail is in drafting elements (detail components, filled regions, detail lines) and when the detail is complete, the model is turned off in the view....although there is nothing wrong with this option, I prefer the first option.
If you have access to last year "detail component" library (maybe it is now included in the standard out of the box? I don't recall...but it is, I believe, collected by Scott Davis and Scott Brown) there are some actual details created, each as a seperate drawing that can be inserted...you could see if there is something to start with...
between having un-exploded autocad views or drafting lines over autocad views...it's best to draw detail lines over autocad, as long as you delete the autocad view when you are done....but never, ever, ever, ever, explode the autocad view....It's a nightmare to clean up those traces of evil (yes, yes, yes...I am exxagerating....just a tiny little bit)

Hey there,
Just a sugestion...
Go to AU online and download the manual for the class, "Detailing in Revit 9". It will help quite a bit with some basic info. It was also taped I believe.
Good Luck,
Steve
