Can you Edit-Cut-Profile of a family object?

It wont let me, much to my surprise.

The family is an angled Louvered awning that butts up to a wall, and in the section of it, i just need to trim the top back an inch or so, allowing us to put the mounting hardware on it.

Yes, i realize i can just could the geometry back in the family, but we have a lot of these, and id really prefer not to do that, lol...

Okay, what the heck... A lot of our Wall hosted Sweeps arent letting us either. We're getting messages that "Line is too short" or "Line does not touch edge' when it CLEARLY does.

I opened a brand new project in 9.1, and made 4 walls and a couple of wall sweeps as well, and it wont let me do it there either.

Am i missing something vital??
