In ADT 2004 I have a rather simple building, and until yesterday I had no problem with the file. However, yesterday afternoon, with a publication deadline screaming in on Wednesday, the file locks down whenever I change to a 3d view. The computer is running on XP home version, but since I had been successful with the regens until yesterday afternoon, I doubt that there is a system problem. The file size is only about a meg, so the size should not be an issue. When I check the system status, ACAD is consuming between 50% and 99% of system resources in this process. After 15 minutes of the computer whizzing and burring, I give up and try to end the program with control-alt-delete task manager. This process takes 5-7 minutes. What has happened?

Have you run a recover on the file?
Steps:
1.) Recover the file
2.) If any errors were detected in the recovery process, repeat step 1.
3.) Once the file recovers without errors, try to switch views.
4.) Does it still lock up?..if so post it here so others can look at it.

Thanks Richard. I have WBlocked, purged, recovered, and audited the file, all to no avail. I tried to upload it to the AUGI site and it said the max upload size is 2,000 KB, so I zipped it, and it responded "File Too Large. Limit for this filetype is 1,000.0 KB. Your file is 1.00 MB" I will try to email you to see if that works.

Do you have the proxy graphics turned off?...you might also set Isavepercent to 0 to help minimize the file size.

The easy fix is to select an entity, right click and choose "materials" from the context menu. Now choose to toggle Surface Hatch as shown in the graphic below:

http://www.integr-8.com/AUGIPICS/EIP_rightclicktogglesurfacehatch.gif (http://www.integr-8.com/AUGIPICS/EIP_rightclicktogglesurfacehatch.gif)

another option would be to type "togglesurfacehatch" at the command line.

Or possibly access the "Format" menu item, choose "Display Manager" then
find the "Model High Detail" model rep under configurations activate the "Display Options"
tab and check the "Hide Surface hatching" toggle as shown below.

Now you can switch back and forth at will.

Further inspection is required in your model to determine the cause of the slow regen. But at least you should be able to work now.

Thanks Richard.

The surface hatch was the culprit, but I do not remember enabling that feature. I must have done it in my sleep. Before I read your reply, I put the problem to a friend in another company who offered the same solution.

Just when I thought all was well with my drawing, I am again having the regen problems. All my settings disable the surface hatch, and it is disabled in plan view in the model. But, when I go to an iso view, it wants to hatch again. What's up now?

Sounds like a different display rep is active. Try the right click method to "toggle surface hatch".

Won't you be glad when you upgrade to 2005 and you can use the icon on the status bar to switch this on and off!

You might try typing _AecToggleSurfaceHatch at the command line...not sure if this works in ADT 2004 or not.
