Here are a few renderings I did a while back on Viz 2005. I drew them in ADT 2006. One is a dry cleaner and one is an exterior car wash.

Hi Dan, Very nice work. What method did you use to create the Letters on the sign? Was that done in Viz or ADT? Thanks

Thanks David.
I did the sign in ADT. Basically I just used text to spell it out, then exploded the the text using explode text in express tools. When you do that, you will notice some extra linework going through the letters that have to be deleted. I selected the entire sign and exploded once more using the regular explode command and deleted the extra linework only, be careful not to delete anything on the outer edges. Then I turned each letter into a pline and extruded. For letters with holes, like an "A" for example, I turned both the outer and inner edges to plines, extruded, then subtracted. Same thing goes for the black outlines on the car wash sign, just extrude then subtract. Its a little time consuming, but the only way I know how to do it.
When I render in Viz, I attach my materials by color. That way, all I have to do is make the different parts of the sign different colors (any color will do), then in VIz, I attach the materials. I do all my parts of my renderings that way. If I have an accent stripe on a wall, I make it a color that hasn't been used yet. Then in Viz, I pick the color, turn on propagate materials, attach it, all the accent stripes on all the walls have the material. Hope that helps.

3d max actually has a text option in it to create extruded text like that. i would guess that viz would have it also, although i dont think viz render does.
just a thought if you have a full version of viz / max around.

I'm sure VIz probably does, but I've been drawing in CAD so long, its easier for me to just do it in ADT and only use Viz for rendering.
