Hi All,

Can anyone tell me the best way to create a 3 run stair? If the run's overlap Revit gives you an error. If you offset the run's slightly Revit will create the stair, but most likely the railing is out of whack in 3D and they don't line up in plan views. Am I missing something here? HELP!!!

You're almost there, although it isn't the railings that are causing the problem. You'll notice that Revit stairs cannot have overlapping Run Boundary Lines - that's just the way things are (right now). You have to build-in a small factor of separation to get this to work. If you have a stair that would overlap or cross your stair in plan, then you need to create smaller sections of stairs. If your railings are messed up, just blow them away and just create new ones.

FYI - there should be extensive help on this subject in the Forum already - Please use the SEARCH function and see the results in there!

Create 2 runs, create a floor system that matches a normal intermediate stair landing, put that in, then create your 3rd run.

Thank you for all the responses everyone, it helped alot. What we ended up doing for now, was creating a single run stair first to a landing, then making a 2 run stair to finish it off. It was the best way we got it to display correctly in plan.

this is what I've been using and it works pretty well. if you add small returns to your railing sketches you can make them turn the corners where the stairs meet too.

Any updates in RAC2008 that would remedy this 3 run stair dilemma?

I've been cheating by slightly offseting the overlapping runs so the boundary lines aren't on top of one another, which works fine.

Don't forget that you can use reference planes. Any reference plane created in the sketch mode is only visible in sketch mode.

Draw the ref planes in as trace lines to avoid the run overlaps.
