room layouts

Some time ago, I went to a seminar that Phil Read gave in Phoenix. He showed a really nice technique for showing 3 dimensional room layout type drawings by turning the walls semi-transparent thus showing a lot more about the content of the room. He even had a way to turn some of the objects different colors to highlight them I believe.

I have been looking through everything and I can't seem to find or figure out how he did it. I also thought I had seen something similar on this forum, but I looked through the forum and couldn't find it.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can help me out?

The ceiling thing is cool too, though, forgot about that :)
