If I have a sloped beam and want my column to be mitered... What is the best practice?

I would do it by creating an in-place void.

I would do it by creating an in-place void.

Can you elaborate?

Column or Structural column (not in-place), then add the void?

I can add the void, but can't seem to get it to subtract from either of these (2) columns. Am I missing something?

It appears that I HAVE to go the in-place family route or custom column family to use a void. Is this correct?

I believe so...The Cut Geometry and Don't Cut Geometry commands are available only in the Family Editor or when you are working with in-place families.

Is this what you are looking for. Frame width and column end heights are parametric.

Here is what I got thus far...

Try to copy to the other sloping beams.

Thanks for any insights!

The cut - don't cut does not work with structutal columns. I appears that the only way to crop the top is to create an inplace family of the beam extrusion and use a void to angle the tops.

I'm ok with that, but how can I now use multiple places (copy) in my project?

Go figure... I tried again in a brand new project and was able to copy the in-place family!

Thanks!

Tony,

You can copy an inplace family, but the individual copies will not update togehter. You need to edit each one. The solution to that is to create a real family and insert it in hte project. Then each type will update when changes are made.
