Shear Wall Family

I used a line based detail component to make a shear wall marker...but I cant seem to get the text to show up ...any ideas?

Don't use text; use a label.

Although you have created a type parameter for the shear wall marker, the text you have placed can't call that parameter. It's text, so it's static. If it was a label, you could call the parameter.

Unfortunately, labels are only available in annotation families. Maybe you can create the same effect with a wall tag and a leader on either side?

OK...Now I am trying to make a generic model family with nested detail components..Can I nest a tag?


My goal is to have a shear wall family that will report the length of itself and allow me to add the shear wall kind (my input).. and schedule all of this stuff.

There seems to be to many restrictions on where you can put labels....

Shear walls are common..how are people handling this parametrically?
