can you turn off a material surface pattern?

Typically we add a grey tone to glass to set it off from the surrounding areas. I have a building that is a large l shape. i want to show the backgroud of the l as a light colour, so i duplicated the view and made all the categories half tone and overlayed the views on a sheet to get the desired resullt. the only issue i have is the shade on the glass. i would like to turn it off for the back ground, but because it is part of the material, i am not sure how to do this for a specific view.

any ideas or alternate ways of doing this?

after some playing around i was looking at the visibility and graphics section and noticed that you can override the surface pattern object color. i turned it to white and boom all the shade was gone. now this turned all surface patterns white, which might not work in all cases, but for what i wanted it looks pretty good. see attached.

I think this work around for elevations and having things in the background and show lightly looks pretty good.
