Family Display problems

I have a hollow metal door family that has sidelights in it. In the family, from an elevation view, the metal frame in hidden line view looks fine, all unified, no joins showing. When dropped into the project, from an elevation view, the joins in the door show, which is not what I want.

Why is there inconsistency in the way the geometry is displayed in the family versus the way it's displayed in the project?

Is the hollow metal door family one you have created yourself, of are you modifying an existing?

Please see attached images and families.
I would like the "in_family.jpg" appearance to be showing up in the project but for some reason it does not.

Very strange, unless I am missing something.

There's no inconsistency in the way geometry is displayed in the Rfa versus project.

Try this and see what occurs.
Go to the Rfa > select the host wall > go to porperties > edit.new > duplicate > give the duplicate a thickness 2' instead of 1'
See what happens.
