View Full Version : Setting wall length

This is probably extremely basic so I am going to claim that 'the only stupid question is the one you do not ask'.

Here goes:

How do you alter the length of an existing freestanding wall when you only want to extend (or decrease) one end of it?

If you alter its temporary dimension it alters over its whole length ie. both ends move.

My method is to alter a temporary dimension that references the end I want to move to another object. This requires a quick equation in the temporary dimension.

I wonder if there is a better and faster way.

Thanks,
Rob

draw a reference plane and dimension to it. reference planes have become my best friend lately.:)

Hover over the end you want to change, TAB until Revit highlights the end of the wall, select it, use Move and specify how far you want it to move or...just change the temporary dimension value now (with it selected).

Yes, that is the other way I sometimes do it.

I saw a tip from Jeffery McGrew a while back where he indicated using equations in temporary dimensions so I have migrated to that method as I thought it was quite clever at the time.

Thanks,
Rob

PS. I agree, Reference Planes are wonderful things. There is an ever increasing amount of orange dashed lines filling my drawings as well.

Well that is easy when you know how.

Thanks very much.
