View Full Version : Delta Symbol insert into MText object causes AutoCAD to crash
Has anyone run into this before?
I was trying to insert the Delta symbol into an AutoCAD object when AutoCAD crashed. Fortunately, I had a save file (.svs) and a recovery file so I did not lose any info. (*whew*) So I tried to run a recover on the drawing but was told that it was 'unrecoverable'.
I deleted the file and reverted back to an older version (the save file) and copied it after updating everything.
I repeated the insert of the delta symbol into the MText editor and the exact same thing happened. This time, though, I took screen shots of the error.
The drawing was originally a 2007 file that was saved down and opened using 2006. I'm trying to decide if I should post the file or not.
The delta symbol inserts fine in other drawing files and this one appears to be the only file that displays this error .....
anyone have any insights / ideas?

Hi
Have you run an Audit / Recover / etc on the DWG file in question, before attempting to insert the delta symbol into a MText Object ?
Have a good one, Mike

But I'll do it and post what I find tomorrow.

This is what I get when I ran the Audit ... (see After Audit.jpg)
And I still got the error when trying to insert the delta symbol afterwards. Exact same thing ... (see After Audit 2.jpg)
If I run Audit on a drawing and it tells me "Total errors found 56 fixed 0" what do I do? I asked it to fix all the errors and it didn't do it ....
How do you fix a block that is apparently perfect?
This is the error message I get ....

What is AcDbBlockReference? What does it mean?
Why does it say scale invalid? All the blocks were created WAAAY before this drawing and have been used many times with no issues ....
How do I count the dynamic blocks in a drawing?
So many quesitons ...
Have you tried to RECOVER the drawing?
Have you tried to RECOVER the drawing?there has been no crash, no shut down. this is pre-disaster. I can see the errors but am unable to correct them. I started another thread about it here (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?p=644814#post644814), but this one has to do with the Audit command itself as opposed to my drawing ....

You can still recover a drawing if it hasn't crashed. Just close the file and then the recover option is available on that file.
My understanding is an audit is the first stage and a recover is the second stage. Kinda like the first and second lines of defense.

Have you tried the PURGE command? (Don't forget the RegApps option)
Have you tried to RECOVER the drawing?
I recovered the drawing (it detected 0 errors) and tried to re-enter that damn Delta symbol again and it crashed CAD.

I purged EVERYTHING which is not currently in the drawing (mostly DBs I created and Plines) and it made no difference.
I even copyclipped the modelspace draing objects and inserted into a new drawing and the error persists.
When I ran the Rocover command, this is the error that popped up. This time, instead of an unhandled error, this is what it peppered me with.
I will clarify something though ...
Upon copyclipping and pasting into a new drawing, the 56 errors that were present are now gone. I can run an Audit and CAD detects no errors. Recover brought the drawing back up fine too.
Yet for some reason, every time I try to insert the Delta symbol in this ONE drawing (I've tested with other ones) the application crashes.

Hi
Any chance of posting the DWG file so we can take a look at the issue / problem first-hand...
Have a good one, Mike

are you sure have you save the file in 2004 format ?
