View Full Version : Unable to assign commands to buttons 4 & 5 on a Kensington Ci60 optical mouse

I'm using Autocad 2007 and recently bought a 5 button mouse (Kensington Ci60 optical wireless mouse) because I was tired of hitting shift + right click for my osnap menu. My goal is to keep my middle button as pan & zoom, and use button 4 or 5 to bring up my osnap menu. I tried to assign commands to buttons 4 & 5 in the cui as I normally would, but they do not work. In fact buttons 4 & 5 don't seem to function at all in autocad, but they do in other applications so I know the mouse is not the problem. The only way I could get it to work like I want was to go into my mouse properties and set button 5 to be shift + right click. So when I hit button 5 it does bring up my osnap menu but it is not actually using button 5, it's performing a shift + right click. Now that I have it this way I am unable to assign other commands to shift + right click because hitting button 5 will invoke that command. Also I would like to assign commands to shift + button 4,5 Ctrl + button 4,5 & shift + Ctrl + 4,5 just like I do with buttons 2 & 3. Has anyone else had this problem, or know how to fix it? Oh and I did install the disc the came with the mouse. Sorry for the long winded explanation, I just want to make sure that my problem is clear.

I don't agree with a lot of reprogramming that removes stock abilities; it just makes life harder in the long run. I do have a way around that is more involved, safer, and easier to re-implement if needed.

I created an accelerator, CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+O, in a personal menu to activate POP0. I then linked the button to the same.

I think most use Logitech or MS rodents, but this works across the board as long as the mouse software allows reprogramming.

I should have mentioned that I don't want to remove all the default settings either. I do like the transparent orbit and swivel. I think it just bothers me that I have the potential to program up to 16 different commands, macros or lisps on my mouse and I am unable to utilize that. But at least now I have one button for pan and one for osnaps, so I guess I'll just have to live with it for now. Thanks for you input.

I am not person whom pursue's impulse buys, but I am definately getting one of those... I have a logitech mx500 with 5 programmable buttons and that makes it look like a paperweight. That thing is the most amazing piece of equipment I have ever seen. (in a nerdy way)

Update, just purchased the n52, and I cannot wait until I get it early next week... I am like a kid before Christmas.

To answer your question, here is what I Have done. In the mouse properties I have changed each button to an assigned keystrok "Ctrl+P" for example. Hit the mouse button, activates print in all applications. Now for acad assigned buttons, just assign an available keystroke to the button, and acad command in your cui. Hopefully this helps.

You won't be disappointed. The thing is just too cool.

I may need some help with setting it up. Now all I need to do is get a second dual output graphics card, and a boom headset and I will be all set...

Not a problem. Just pop over to that thread when the time comes.

We were laughing last week about that.
I currently have dual monitors, wireless keyboard with separate number pad, wireless mouse, new n52, wireless headset for phone, wireless Logitech headphones for music. I'm getting pretty full.

Add the program that allows you to speak commands to autocad, add the routine from around here that makes CAD talk back to you. Now you're "talking" fun. (they won't let me have either; afraid I will start arguing with the monitors and the monitors winning)

/board/mouse commands?

With all that wireless stuff do you notice any lag when issuing keyboard/mouse commands?

wow, that n52 is gonna be awesome when I grow a third arm. I might have to get one of those. The only problem will be trying to come up with enough commands to fill it.

Actually, not at all!!
The keyboard is the Logitech diNovo. Bluetooth. Works great.
The Trackball is the Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman. Not Bluetooth; just wireless.

I'm running out of USB slots..., but am having no issues with any response times at all.

Thanks for the info, Todd.

I had a logitech keyboard/mouse with, I thought, a slight delay. Now I'm using a Trust combo with a very obvious delay. :-(
Back to Logitech then.

I just purchased a Logitech MX600 mouse. Is it possible to keep the default functions for use in non-cad applications, but assign additional cad-specific functions to the buttons?
I tried assigning button functions in the cui by dragging commands as described in the help file.
After applying the changes, I got the following error message:
; warning: unwind skipped on exception
; error: Exception occurred: 0xC0000005 (Access Violation)
When I brought up the text window, this message appeared 30+ times.
I tried this both with keeping the default functions assigned and after changing the function to "unassigned" or "generic button" in my mouse software.

Have a quick peek at this link.
This add-on for Setpoint will allow for application specific settings.

I use it on all the Logies here and on my personal at home. Works great.
Yet to have an issue.

No lag on my end using an A4tech keyboard. I do know when the batteries have been drained because I cannot send any input to the command line. Ohter than that, I love being wireless.

After some initial apprehension, I downloaded this program & gave it a try. It was very easy to set up and so far, no problems. I guess I'd recommend it to others too.

Just double checking that you did add an autocad specific group, correct?

Sorry my reply's a month late. Yes I set up a group just for Autocad. So I can use my side buttons for "forward & back" when I'm browsing the 'net and I have them set for "move & copy" in CAD.
