Hi all,

Does anyone know of a way to select plan regions without actually picking each one? Seems they don't respond to being included in a selection window after which you could just filter them out. I'm trying to copy plan regions between views.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

As far as I know it can't be done. The best trick I have found to find them fast is to go to View... in the Design Bar and Choose Plan Region...
From there, it will grey out the model and show you where all of the existing plan regions are. You can cancel your sketch and run around the plan and grab them all and copy to clipboard and paste.

This may seem silly, but why do you have so many plan regions? We have found that there is almost always another way to accomplish most of what plan regions do and we seem to be using plan regions very sparingly.

Thanks for the tip.

When we use plan regions, it's generally for split-level parking structures where portions of the plan are at the half-level between ramps. Depending on the depth of the structure, a single view range does not always work across the entire plan.

Then there's always that little area that needs to be cut at a different level in order for the drawing to be clear...that mechanical opening in the wall that's just above or below the cut plane, for example. Don't think I can quite live without plan regions. I'd welcome your suggestions for dealing with these conditions in other ways.

I should know better than to say that there are not a lot of good reasons for using a tool in Revit (such as a plan region). You hit the nail on the head for two of the best reasons to use plan regions. My cautionary tale comes from a team that learned about plan regions while doing a split level underground parking garage. Suddenly, they were using plan regions for everything. It made the whole file difficult to navigate and overly complicated.

Instead of recommending not to use plan regions, I should be cautioning you to use them where appropriate (which you are already doing).
Good work,
Stephen
