The latest AUGI survey (http://www.augi.com/publications/hotnews.asp?id=485)has some surprising results for Revit.
Just who are these people using earlier than R5 ???
...... and for that matter why use anything less than R6 ?
I'd just like to know your reasoning, thats all.
C'mon you 15 percenters, fess up.:)

It may have something to do with projects being started in an earlier release and R6 not liking projects from earlier releases. Just a guess. Heck, that's the only thing I can think of.

This is what caught my eye in that survey - Revit was not even in the top 6 and ADT was 2nd.
2. Plan to Buy. What Autodesk product(s) are planning to buy/use within the next 12 months? The top six replies are:
1. AutoCAD
2. Autodesk Architectural Desktop
3. Autodesk Land Desktop
4. AutoCAD LT
5. Autodesk Civil Design
6. Autodesk Inventor

At this point, there are still scores more who know only ADT, and have no idea what Revit is, or don't want to know what it is. I think there are a ton of loyal ADT users that are in denial!

Another thing is that the survey said 'planned to use'. I've met many firms that bought ADT 2/3.3, went through training and such, but then never did much with it, ADT-wise. So know they are looking at the migration to 2004/2005 as the time to 'really start using ADT, for real this time'. ;-)

Revit changed the licence agreement? prior to 5.1 it was possible effectively to have a copy on a laptop and desk computer i.e. home and office simultaneously. Albeit strictly one user.
The portable licence feature in the current release can be a pain if you are going in and out several times a day. (tip use a USB ram drive) Other than that I don’t know all my files seem to have upgraded without drama and 6 is much better.

6.1 EULA still allows one office and one home installation. However the software enforcement mechanism changed. It is not advertised but one can safely install Revit on two computers and authorize both computers over the Internet using the same serial number. This fact however should not be interpreted as an invitation to pirate Revit by installing it on every computer in sight. During actual registration and authorization process the software fingerprints requesting computer and sends it to the Autodesk server. The server will detect if the same serial number is used too many times by different computers and will deny suspicious authorization requests.

Now that is the kind of titbit that makes this forum a real winner. Thanks, Leonid.

Leonid is right! You can install Revit twice, on the third installation the software kicks you out & asks you to contact Autodesk or your friendly reseller.
