I was up in Whistler over the weekend and shot some pics of the first project I undertook in Revit. The Whistler Conference Centre was modelled in Revit back in release 4.5, and we modelled the structure down to the last purlin. Fun project... we would have gladly taken lazy parsing and phase-aware rooms, but that was then! Here's the main entrance...

And here's a side view of the entrance...

...and a similar view from Revit:

Along with a couple of 3D views from the model.

Hard to believe it's been over two years! And I'm still hooked.

I particularly love the framing 3D Wes. I agree that would be a fun project to work on.

Do you do any renderings that you can post ?

Mostly work and no play, Beegee! I'll have to do a render on one of them. The Conference Centre was outsourced to a fellow who took the Revit model and animated it in 3D Studio Max. He modelled a 2km diameter cylinder about 1 kilometer high and mapped the Whistler background onto it, modelled the buildings immediately around the centre and did a drive around.

Most of my projects have been working drawings, and while I've worked with people to get good renderings, my own projects have never got that sort of attention. OK, that seems wrong, doesn't it?? Bob and I are planning to do a tower/condo project with a sail-like motif not unlike Renzo Piano's Aurora Place project in Sydney -- we WILL be rendering that!

Nice model! Just like the real thing. I find renderings are fun but take so much time...the models as you show give a very accurate idea of what the building will look like. How old is the building?... the exposed wood structure looks in great shape.

Well done Wes

should be more posts like it

The wood that you see out the front of the building is new; the interior glulams have been sandblasted and have a lighter colour than what you see here. It's a great looking building from this angle, but alas, because of the lack of complete funding there are areas that didn't get anywhere near this much attention.

It does beg the question: how do people handle flashing? I didn't bother modelling it but maybe I should have...
