Hi all,
I've got a problem that I don't understand -
We've got a family loaded into a project. It's a component, not an in-place family. However, when I click on it to try and edit the family, I don't get the option to do so. Can anyone explain why the edit family feature isn't an option on some families and is an option on others?
Thank you in advance for your replies!

What kind of component is it?

There are some System Families that can't be edited. Mostly Annotations.

If the family was created in a version prior to the "Edit Family" option, then you will not be able to just hit edit family to work on it. The solution is to export it using the File > Save to Library, open and save it with the latest version. Then it will be editable from the project....

Thank you for the updated information!

However, when try to save it to the library, the only family that it gives me the option of saving is some section tail. I cannot get the geometry to save for some reason... I can copy and paste the families from one project to another but it will not pull up in the list as a family able to be saved. Any ideas on this one?

It is not a system family, it is specialty casino equipment, bathroom equipment, stuff like that....

Are the components by any chance grouped in any way?

The other thing to look at is make sure they are indeed families. We had someone who worked with us in the past who could not edit a family and come to find out he was confusing an AutoCAD imported toilet fixture with a Revit family (don't ask).

That was my next thought as well, based on the object in question. A lot of specialty rquipment is floating around as "Revit" objects, when they are modeled solids from Acad or elsewhere.

They are definitely Revit families, created in an older version of Revit, not AutoCAD based Revit families.
