When labeling concrete pipes Civil 3D labels them as "Reinforced Concrete". Is there a way to change this to read "RCP"?

Yes, but how to do it depends on the version.

2006 pulls the description from the part definition. You need to use partbuilder to change it.

2007 pulls the name from the parts list so you can just edit the description there. The default description, as it is now, came from the part definition.

I am using C3D 2007. I have updated the material name in the parts list, but the pipes are still using the old labels.

I'm not currently using 07 so my ability to help is limited.

I remember reading something about this in the Adesk group so I ran a quick search. It seems that the modified description in the parts list will only apply to new pipes. Existing pipes need to be edited individually. They don't maintain a link to the parts list, they only inherit the description at the time they are created.

You can do a mass edit by opening the pipe network in a panorama view, select the pipes you want to edit, right click the 'description' column heading and provide a new description.

I think you are right about the labes not updating on the old pipes. For now I will just update the pipes individually.

Try this under settings pipe label styles. try edit the label style instead of using the description property label macro. use pipe outer or inner diameter or width macro then RCP behind it.

Yes, while the method you propose will work, it's not very dynamic as it's then tied to one type of pipe, RCP. If one needed to swap the pipe for a different type, like HDPE, they would have to change the pipe label style in every location that pipe is labeled. (plan, profile, x-sect.) I know my user, me, will forget to follow through on making all these changes. Having the label pull the type of pipe from the pipe's description allows the label to adapt to any pipe type changes. Swapping parts also allows other aspects of a pipe to be changed, like wall thickness.

but the OP ask for a solution and this does do the trick.
