How do I keep the layer states from a drawing, coming over with it when I XREF it into a new drawing.

Basically, I want the new drawing to have a clean layer states manager.

Anyway to do this??

Thanks,

Brian

Delete them?
Yeah, that's not what you want, but it's still pretty quick.

Well, I am working with a base drawing that is only getting bigger by the day. It currently has 85 layer states, with about ~200 layers. So, deleting them is kind of cumbersome.

I don't know if this answers your exact question, but it may be a solution.
We don't use named layer states, especially when using xrefs.

You can change xref layer colors, linetypes, on/off, freeze/thaw in the layer dialog box.
As long as "visretain" is set to 1, it will retain those settings. Yes, you will have to keep up with the new layers as the show up, but once you address them, they keep those settings.

Also, If you have and xref the way you like it and you want it for a new drawing, you can "copy/pasteorig" it into a brand-new drawing and it should be how you want it, all the modified xref layer states should be as you set them.

Hope this helps
