Some quick questions that I posed in the newsgroups but have not gotten a response from the factory for yet....

I have a South American office with AutoCAD Network Licensed installed on
all machines, and a pool of AutoCAD licenses. No problem so far...

They want to use Revit, so we made a "great deal" to get Revit Series. We
have the licenses today and before I remove the old AutoCAD seats from the
license pool the question is..... will all of the AutoCAD seats have to be
reinstalled from the Revit Series AutoCAD install or will the old get
licenses from this new product as well? (I think they will have to be reinstalled)

Will "regular" Revit Building get licenses from this pool or must I only use
the Revit Series install? (99.9% sure I need the Series install)

If I must use the Revit Series installs and if the office runs out of
licenses, will those users still be able to borrow with the GNUL Pool
(Global Network User Licenses), that only has "regular" AutoCAD networked
licenses? Will they be able to get more licenses or not because it is a
"Revit Series" version and they only have "regular" in the other office? We bought the GNUL's for the express purpose of having a overflow pool for their AutoCAD use. (I am reasonably sure they will not be able to tap into this pool if the Series AutoCAD installer is used, but have not done it yet to check)

I could be looking at a lot of installs in the next few days to take
advantage of the "great deal" and some major problems later......

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

You don't have to reinstall all the AutoCAD, juste leave them use the same method. As for your Revit just install using that new number.

Unfortunately, all of their AutoCAD licenses were changed to Revit Series, so I have no choice.

If regular AutoCAD will not pull from the Revit Series licenses, I must install Revit Series AutoCAD. Then if Revit Series AutoCAD will not pull from the GNUL, when they need more seats of AutoCAD, I now have a very expensive pile of GNUL licenses that do me no good for that site.

I would check with my reseller but if you own enough of Revit Series seats then you should be ok.
If you really wanna be by the book, then yes you will have to reinstall everything.

Autodesk is our reseller... and they are not talking....

That site does not have enough seats of AutoCAD for current work. That was the reason to purchase the GNUL seats, any site in the world can legally use them... they run out, they run to GNUL for more.

Are they all 2007 ? If so i think they should pick up the revit series licenses if need be because of the new cascading license feature

No, I wish... still 2005, which now that you mention that is the obvious problem... The Revit Series licenses are only for AutoCAD 2007 based AutoCAD....

Problem is still complex because the GNUL is for 2005....

Life is good...

I can't speak to the AutoCAD side, but we have a mixture of Revit and Revit Series network licenses, I only install plain Revit and it uses both licenses just fine. It would defeat the purpose of network licensing if you have tailor your installs.

We have done a lot of network instillations and we haven't come across a situation like this. Normally when you change the license whatever program you are using will automatically pick the new license from the server. Now and then you will need to re-install but we haven't had many of those. I would suggest getting the new license and testing to see if they pick up the license. If they do then you know you can just go ahead and create a revit deploy and everything should be fine.

Then you definitely have an issue here. I would contact Autodesk an see with them if you can make an arrangement.
If not, is it a possibility for you to upgrade your 2005 to 2007 ?
