I have set in the type properties of columns in my project to have a coarse scale fill pattern. However, some of them, randomly do not show up as poche. They are all the same type and are constrained to the same levels top and bottom. Has anybody had this problem or know what may be happening?

yes I have had this happen. sometimes it is that the column is an architectural column and has joined with a wall or floor. Try unjoining, if that doesn't work try deleting and replacing the column. Also load in the latest version of the column. I seem to remember that my template had columns from earlier versions before course fill was available for columns.

I have had this problem, and have even turned the columns in to structural columns to assure that they werent joining with walls or roofs, etc. In fact, i have columns that are the same family, the same type, and nothing is different between them... And they are shading differently in plans/perspectives/elevations.
Ive even deleted one, anc copied the one right next to it, and SOMETHING is causing it to color differently......

Ditto here, same column, same drawing, same room, same grid line, different fill. ARGH. Deleting and copying the "good" one does work.

Interesting to hear. It doesnt work, for us.
I cant figure it out either, lol.
Same column. Same gridline. Sits on same floor. Goes to same height, with the same wall on top. Made in same phase. On same workset.
Looks different, hehehe.
Its minor for us, but frustrating in a funny kind of way.

Funny to see a post from someone sitting about three desks away about an issue that someone had who sits two desks away...
I have seen this and had it happen to me as well. Though usually a conundrum as described by everyone above, I would highly recommend experimenting with the join/ unjoin geometry tool at least a couple of times in different locations. Walls are more powerful than I ever realized when I started using this program and they often apply their attributes and also join to elements that they touch. That said, this issue appears to be a little -cough- buggish and should probably go to the big boys in computer playland so they can see what is going on out here.
good luck,
stephen

This may not fix it but you can open the family and under Settings> Family Category and Parameters you can uncheck the box for join automatically.

I've had columns that I know are there, I can see them in 3d, the same column I see on the grid next to it, but I can't see the column in plan at all.

Funny that you mention this. I have had this happen with lighting fixtures and it drove me bonkers. The lighting fixtures showed up, then didn't show up, then I couldn't select it, then I could but it not in RCP. Finally I just left it all where it was and moved on [sad face].
If you want to investigate this probably unrelated issue, here's the thread: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=55060
Cheers,
Stephen

I went all day thinking nobody answered my post because I forgot to subscribe!
Thank you, the "unjoin geometry" worked and in the future I won't set columns automatically join.
Have a great weekend,
-Rachel
