new furring on existing walls

I have an existing CMU wall to which I'd like to add furring and gyp on the interior and siding on the exterior. Is there a way to add these new elements while still keeping the cmu as existing?

What I have done in the past is I would create the furred wall with gyp brd as a new wall type, making sure to leave the exterior with out a finish material. Then I would draw the furred wall next to the CMU wall and then align and lock them together. The last thing you need to do is place the walls in the proper phase (new or existing)
