i have been looking at all options and menus to try and become more versed in all that revit has to offer. i'm trying to find out whatt tools/"design options", "copy/monitor", & "coordination review" really do and how they are manipulated.

The only really 'efficient' way to become 'versed' in Revit is to actually USE these tools... Tutorials are a great way to start off. Secondly you can open/start a new project and mess around with these tools to get the feel for them and learn how to use them...

yup, thanks, i have done a lot of tutorials, and using and playing with all the tools. sometimes neither will tell you what you need to know and it can become very inefficient. if someone has a helpful explanation on any of these, that would be greatly appreciated.

under TOOLS there are "design options", "copy/monitor", & "coordination review" which i've looked through and into but i still don't know what they do, what they're meant for, and how they should be used.

Design options are exactly what they say. They let you create multiple options of your model in one file. You activate them, then set up views displaying the diff. options. For example you have a locker room and you want to try out various layouts, you would use design options. Or Restaurant seating, or Entry features, etc.

Copy/monitor is used for collaboration between linked files, ie a struct model linked to an arch modely, you would copy/monitor the grids, columns, shear walls from the struct model to yours, then when the engineer gives you a new model, the coordination review will tell/show you what has changed.

Design options are great.... By far, one of my favorite items in Revit. I work in Retail architecture, and often ill get an entire facade element modeled, and the client will have 3 or 4 possible variations that me may or may not like, but he wants to see the perspective of it.
Rather than make 3 or 4 files, or copy the facade element around, i can have all 3 or 4 of them in exactly the same spot, and use the same camera (duplicate it) and show him the exact difference.

When he knows which one he likes.... Boom. :)
