Simple question. Can you copy door and window tags to another door or window that doesnt have one and then associate the tag with that by using the Tag anchor command to set it to that object? And if youre scheduling with them will the schedule still pick them up? (Assuming the object was added to the selection set for the schedule) I always tell my users to never copy tags because I've never been 100% sure of what that would do or affect, but in some instances its just faster to copy them rather than recreates them(less clicks) any thoughts out there on whether copying is good or bad. or even works to begin with. Thanks in advance

When you first copy a tag that is anchored to an object, the copy remains anchored to that same object. In ADT2004, you can right-click the tag and choose Tag Anchor > Set Object to anchor the tag to a different object. If the new object to which the tag is anchored already has the referenced Property Set Definitions attached, then whatever values are set will be reflected in the tag. If the new object does not have those PSDs, then the old values will remain in the tag until the PSDs are attached. If you scheduled such an object before attaching the PSDs, you would get ?, not the residual value[s] in the tag. This could lead to confusion as the object would appear to be properly tagged. [Even more insidious, the user could manually change the values in the tag, making it really appear correct, until you went to schedule the object. If you are using remote scheduling on a large project, it could be quite a task to work through all of the bogus tags.]
I have never understood why anyone would want to copy tags. It is far easier to use DesignCenter or a Tool Palette tool to add tags and get the PSDs added automatically than it is to do that once, copy the tags, reset the objects and manually add the PSDs.

Just curious here - but is it because they can get them to line up easier at the same location in relation to the door or window?
I have one guy here that like to do that because he could get the tags to be at a certain location in relation to the window - let's say 12" from the center of the window. I had him draw a line at the distance and use tracking to get it from the center of the window to the nearest point on the line.
Trying to figure out why somone would want to use two commands - copy and then attaching the tag - rather than one - just tagging each individually.
OH - do you pay these guys by the hour?

Did you know that the multiple option is available when tagging doors? And if you use that option then the initial tag's "Relative location" used in that command is then transferred to every other tag that is added when multiple is selected. In other words, tag a door and make sure that you insert the tag in exactly the right place, centered or whatever, then when you use the multiple command option, each additional tag is also centered in the same manner as the first.

Does anyone know how to reset the door number sequence? I tried to change the Property Set Definition, but it did not translate to my dwg. Every time i add a new tag the old door number appears.
