Filters were created, applied, and working great. after some time, we noticed that the filters no longer appeared in the filters list, but are still being applied. what gives? to be clear:
1. filter is graphically evident in views.
2. filter shows up in "VV" controls.
3. filter is no longer listed in the filters list?!
see attached.

We've experienced a similar problem, but only in one view. We can't make a filter work though. it shows up, but has no effect. In a duplicate view, it works fine. Sorry I'm not help, but I do know what you mean...
As for your signature line:
"If you don't have any bugs on your windshield, you're not going anywhere."
I can think of one other possibility...
You're driving in reverse.
I'm Just sayin'....

Are you using Worksets ?

the team is using worksets, however I get no better result when all worksets are opened and set to "visible." I still cannot see them in the list. the problem being that i need to apply the same filter to other views, but can't (not a visible option.) if i rewrite the filters, the original is still being applied/doesn't get overwritten. and i can't disable it. and i can't seem to "save" the filter out so i can reapply it.
i feel like there is this forest, but i can't see it because there's just a big, fat tree in my way...

If seen that happen with a filter being applied to a local file and not propagate to the rest of the project. Could it be the case ?

I GUESS THAT COULD BE IT. THE USER WHO CREATED THE FILTERS DOESN'T HAVE THEM AVAILABLE ON THEIR MACHINE, EITHER. I TYPICALLY HAVE THEM DOWNLOAD NEW LOCAL COPIES EVERY MORNING, THOUGH.

we have also had this occur intermittingly on 9.1 but never figured out what might be causing it
