link trouble

I have linked some autocad drawings in my project and when i opened the file this morning the links were missing. when i try to re-link them i get the following message:
"at least one instance of this link already exist it can be invisible because the links unloaded. continuing will create another instance for this link."
what has happened and what should i do?

Is the linked file in a separate workset, iswitched off int he view visibility dialog or as the dialog suggests in an unloaded link?

The last sounds most likely try File>Manage Links> and that dialog will tell you whether the linked file has been dropped for some reason and will allow you to relink it.
