Misbehaving Columns

I have set up these columns to show how we want them to be built in relation to the wall that they intersect. The columns are constructed of the separate pieces that make them up. They look great when I load them into the project. They share all the same materials and hatches as the parts of the walls they are in. The weird parts happens when I try to insert them into the wall. They turn completely grey, or they copy the brick material to the inside. In the .pdf attached, I have shown the original column and copied it into the wall. I even backed the walls off a little bit, but the columns still turn grey. What gives?

As always, any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Architectural Column do take the walls material for display, turn them into structural

That did it. I copied the pieces from my Arch Columns into a new Struc Column family. Loaded them and dropped them into place. Worked like a charm.
