O.K. First I just want to say that I just LOOOOOOOOVE my predecesser and now know why I'm here instead of him.

I just stumbled across 9 file boxes of "drawing file backups" Does anyone out there know of a good file comparison program to compare say, dates modified. Basically need a way to say "OK this is the latest version of this drawing." so I can compare to what we have on CD and hopefully toss 3/4 of this ****!

P.S.
Sorry guys and gals, just not willing to take the chance and arbitrarily toss the lot of it.
although the thought has crossed my mind.

I'm thinking, your only hope is The Force.

or divy it up between your staff to do(if you have any)

Norton utilities has a file comparison checker. that will compare versions to see if theyre the same.
Most of the drawings should have a date and time stamp on them as well. this could help you.
you oculd just alo dump them into the same directory and see which files overwrite each other with different timestamps kind of a half assed way of doing it but its quick :-)

That's what I started doing, but like you said, not the best way. <<begin rant"And then there's just the fact that there's 9 FREAKIN BOXES" end rant>>

You can try CompareDwg, although I really don't know anything about it. Here is the website (http://www.cadinfo.net/reviews/comparedwg.htm)

Nice tool, definately a keeper, but slow because each file has to be opened individually.
looking for something that would maybe scan two directories and just report which files are different by date modified.

I think we have a winner! (not a champ cuz it's shareware not freeware)
