View Full Version : Railings with irregular spaced balusters or no balusters at all

Two questions:

1. If I have a railing with irregular balusters [each of my 10 balconies is different in this regard], is the best way to deal with this to create a new railing type for each balcony? And is it as easy as tweaking the main pattern of the balusters? It seems as if it's geared to repetitive patterns...

2. I have louvers in a curtain wall in my building which match the horizontal railing, so I was going to place empty panels where the louvers go and then place a railing without balusters in the void. I can't figure out how to switch off the balusters. Can anyone help me with that - or - is there a smarter way to make the louvers? I would prefer to have a Curtain Wall Louver Panel and will do so once I understand the making of families.

P.S.: Does anyone know why Autodesk University pulled out all webcasts from its website? Is it because the new version of Revit is coming out?

Thanks a bunch,
Axel

Hi, I know this post is from a while ago but I have run into a similar problem and want to turn the balusters off except for the start and finish ones! Did you work out how to do this?

many thanks!!

As far as irregular balusters goes, you have the option of drawing short sections of railing along the stairs and using end posts as balusters.

If you combine end post, baluster, and railing length with intelligence you can end up with combinations of spacings and balusters that are not available by using the tools in the ordinary fashion.

You will need to experiment.

You can set the baluster type to 'None' in the Baluster dialog under Baluster Family.

Also one technique I've used for complex railings is to draw one type right on top of the other. No-one said you had to use just one(!) Copy> Paste Aligned> Same Place, and change the type.
